"Where the Coast gets engaged."

General Info

In 1963, John Pav graduated from Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi with a degree in Horology (watchmaking). He worked for Sears Roebuck for 10 years, and after honing his skills, he decided to open his own shop in downtown Gulfport in 1973 named John Pav's Trade Shop. The shop specialized in watch repair for most of the jewelry stores on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. John worked alone until 1974, when his brother-in-law, Melton Broome, graduated from Jones County Junior College with a degree in Horology and Jewelry Repair, joined him. By 1980, due to their growth and success, John and Melton became business partners, moved into a larger building, and became Pav & Broome Watchmakers & Jewelers. They again moved in 1985 to a larger building with space to include retail. During the time at this location, eight more employees were hired, including two future partners: John's son, Matthew, and Melton's son, Vernon. Again the business was growing and getting crowded, so in March 2000, plans began to build a state-of-the-art, free standing facility to meet their needs. In October 2002, the doors opened. Our family has enjoyed the joys of everyday life with our Coast friends and neighbors, from the first gift for a new-found love, to wedding engagements and anniversaries to birth and graduation celebrations and much more. We love being able to celebrate these times with our customers. These relationships have allowed us to become one of the largest diamond and fine jewelry stores along the Gulf Coast. Our familys reputation of excellent customer service and the extensive selection of fine jewelry and luxury timepieces has allowed us to continue to grow with downtown Gulfport.

Most trusted jeweler on the Coast. Largest selection and best prices when comparing quality jewelry and watches. Will never go anywhere else.

My husband to be works offshore and is only home 2 weeks for ebery 6 he is gone. We went into the shop about four months ago and found a ring that fit our tastes and budget perfectly despite the complete lack of customer service or interaction. No employees came up to help us, we had to walk to the front and ask while they had been cutting up and lauging the whole time. Regardless, I loved the ring. We were even ordered a price lower than what was advertised, so my fiancé decided on a slightly larger VS2 diamond for me. He went into the financing office and explained that he would have to pay the full amount when he got home from his hitch, but that he had 20% to put down there. The woman inside was in her late 40's and completely rude and condescending. My fiancé has good credit and was putting down a decent deposit, but she treated us like dirt. This is on a $5k + ring. My fiancé got understandably frustrated and one of the owners, Melton Broome, came into the finance office and pulled my fiancé aside and offered to hold the ring until my fiancé got back without any money down. My fiancé repeatedly offered a deposit but Melton had paperwork drawn up for the ring to be held for that price for us until 7 days after my fiance's return. He removed it from the case and put in writing that we could buy the ring for the price he offered by the date provided. My fiancé went in the day after he got home. Lo and behold, it was nowhere to be found. Apparently it had been sold.
We showed the paperwork and were promised another ring exactly like it for the same price. To be ready in 45-60 days.
I know this was not a legally binding contract and no money changed hands, but it disgusts me. My fiancé and I plan to marry in April and didn't have time to wait.
Do not expect customer service. The finance woman was a piece of work and so was Vernon. Melton is a dishonest liar and did not honor his agreement and caused me a lot of pain and sorrow. All for greed. We were only getting $300 off. They could have waited for my fiancé to get home. Horrible customer service and a staff that doesn't give a darn about you. Negative 5 stars in my book. I realize this is a South Mississippi institution- my father bought my mother's ring from Melton!- but the new generation doesn't care about the customers and the owners have their money.
Don't waste your time.

I found this jewelery store to be one of the best places I ever had to shop for watches, rings or anything else in that matter. I purchased from this store several time and I've always been welcome. Everyone in the store has always been very helpful. When we had a problem with one of the watches they sold us, even if not covered by warranty, was promptly fix at no charge. We were able to finance most of the pieces we bought from them. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends. Thank you Pav&Broome.

I took an inexpensive, but sentimental watch in for repair and the staff was above and beyond obliged to help. Their services were very timely and I am so grateful for their expertise. While I waited, the sales staff was extremely kind and the environment was welcoming. I highly recommend their services to anyone needing repairs or just a beautiful piece of jewelry.

Not a watch shop

They are supposedly a watch repair shop, but their not interested in servicing Japanese brand watches. I'm surprised in this day and age an watchmaker can afford to be this picky.

They advertise "watch repair". They don't mention that that only applies to their watches! Couldn't even provide a battery for a Citizen watch!

We are sorry we were unable to replace your battery. We can replace most batteries, but there are always exceptions. We can not, however, replace some solar batteries and watches that require only the manufacturer to open and replace. Example: Citizen Eco-Drive & Seiko Kinetics
