I take my 8 year old pug and 8 month old lab mix here and I love it. I really like that they have the dog do an interview day and they only get one chance. The staff are really dog people and enjoy spending time with the dogs. Both of the dogs get excited when we pull into the parking lot and are pooed when they come home!

I've taken my one year old German Shepherd to Desert Dogs twice for kenneling and I'm very happy with their service. They're picky about the temperament of the dogs they take - this is an 'open play' facility where all the dogs are out to mingle with eachother during the day (boarded dogs are kenneled in the evening when the staff goes home) so they screen all dogs to be sure they're a good fit. But these are also 'dog people' who understand dogs and how they play, etc. There is almost always an attendant out with the dogs so any 'bad' behaviour is stopped before it can escalate. We were there once when one of the dogs started barking and the attendant quickly and firmly told him to hush before the other dogs had a chance to get worked up, too. It was nice to witness the discipline and because they have several web cams you can watch the dogs from their website and see that for the most part the dogs are allowed to roam and play - so there's a balance between the discipline and freedom. This is a marked contrast to the first dog day care I took my shepherd to where they're mostly unattended and after two visits he'd developed aggressive behaviour toward certain types of other dogs - my guess is either a dog picked on him or he joined in pack behaviour picking on another. We stopped taking him there and several months later he had stopped that behaviour and I'm thankful that at Desert Dogs he hasn't picked any of that up, again. And when we picked our dog up after Christmas the staff had made a photo CD for us with pictures of Blue playing. It was a really nice touch.
