General Info
The owner lives on his own farm in Lake County IL and raises his own chickens, lambs, and pigs so the meat is VERY fresh. The restaurant next door is called "The Shanty and if you want to sit down and have a cold drink you can get most of the items served from "Captain Porkys'" in their and it also is a very good place to dine. The Shanty was even on the food network and they reviewed a few of the menu items which are marked as so on the menu.

Best BBC north of Tennessee!
Meat is very good. Generous portions. That said the sauce is the boss and their sauce has a Marinara flavor to it which in my opinion doesn't work so well with BBQ. For BBQ I prefer Hillarys or Famous Daves.
A local favorite, the food is prepared excellent, the staff is very nice, and the even the decor is original and made for the town its in. I would recommend trying Captain Porkys' at least once if your out in the area. I even get items to bring home and put in fridge for the next day if I'm not hungry at the time or if I'm there getting something for then I get stuff for later also. I'm still working my way thru the menu so I can't say everything is good but what I've had is great.
